Allée 4
DESCRIPTION
Graphite lead on paper | 2018
Martinet & Texereau created this work during Tappan’s Artist Exchange Program, where artists from across the globe swap homes and studios. The French duo traded places with LA-based Andrew Steiger and were inspired to create the “Los Angeles” series—drawings that explore the suburbs and architecture of Southern California. Through the eyes (and pencils) of newcomers seeking beauty in their surroundings, banal domestic scenes are transformed into extraordinary studies.

PAIGE WASSEL ON MARTINET + TEXEREAU
“Something about Martinet + Texereau’s drawings and prints bring me back to my childhood. They sketch a lot of almost suburban homes, which remind me of my life growing up in the suburbs of Chicago. I love when a piece of art can make me feel a sense of comfort and for some reason these homes do just that.”
